Are you looking for a blogging niche that is not only suitable for you but is also proven to make money for you in the long run, so you know that you don’t waste your time and effort on something that is not going to work out in the end?
How To Choose Your Blogging Niche
If you are a total beginner, we are going to help you choose your blogging niche by using this Venn Diagram.

The first circle is your passion and your interests.
The second circle is your knowledge skills and expertise, and the third circle is that it solves a burning problem.
The third circle is the most important because if you have a blog that is only built around your passion and knowledge that you have but it doesn’t really solve any problem for your target audience, your blog is NOT going to make money.
So, you want your blogging niche to be at the intersection of these three circles.
And it’s very crucial that you understand this because your blog can make or break depending on this.
To help you find your blogging niche, here are some questions you can ask yourself:
- What are you passionate about?
- What are your interests?
- What do you have knowledge and expertise in?
- What do you love doing even if you don’t get paid?
- What do you love talking about?
- What are some of the things your friends and family ask you for advice in?
- What do your friends and family think you are good at?
- What would you like to be recognized for?
- What would you like to get paid to do?
- What are the subjects you have studied?
- What courses have you taken and what certifications do you have?
- What books and publications do you often read?
Now, let’s look at an example.

If you are a new mom, you might have heard of the website called “KellyMom.com”
This website was started by Kelly who is a mother of three and also a certified lactation consultant.
So, she has a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to breastfeeding.
And she is also passionate about helping mothers with breastfeeding and parenting problems.
Naturally, her perfect blogging idea would be breastfeeding and parenting.
Now, what if you are still struggling to come up with a blogging niche after going through the exercise above?
Here is another way to help you decide what is a good blogging niche for you.
The Big Four Evergreen Blogging Niches That Are Proven To Make Money
There are 4 biggest evergreen niches in the market – Health, Wealth, Relationship & Hobbies.
All these niches are evergreen, which means it can stand the test of time.
Personally, I love evergreen niches because it means my blog will never become outdated.
So, when you are thinking about what blogging niche is right for you, you can think in terms of these four evergreen niches.
Here, I have listed some sub-niches under each broad niche.
Health Niche:
- Weight Loss ( e.g. Weight loss for women, Weight loss for men, Weight loss with diet, Weight loss after pregnancy)
- Muscle Building
- Healthy eating
- Diet
- Fitness (e.g. Body building, Strength training, Boxing, Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Running, Hiking, Cross-Fit, etc)

- Mental Health (e.g. Depression, Stress, Anxiety, etc)
- Illness (e.g. Women’s Health, Diabetes, Cancer, Dementia, Eating disorders, etc)
- Quit Smoking
Now, let’s take a look at another example.

This website called “NerdFitness.com” was started by a guy called Steve.
Why did he decide to choose Nerd Fitness niche?
First, he has found success in getting healthy and fit himself as a nerd. (that is knowledge)
Second, he is interested in helping people like himself (i.e. nerds) get fit. (that is interest and passion)
Lastly, it solves a real burning problem (weight loss) faced by people like himself.
Wealth Niche:
- Make money online
- Side Hustles
- Freelancing
- Make money from home
- Frugal Living
- Personal Finance
- Saving money
- Paying off debt
- Investing (e.g. Stock Market Investing, Real Estate Investing, etc)
- Trading (e.g. stock trading, futures trading, option trading, forex trading, etc)
We are going to take a look at an example.
Below is a blog called ForexWithAnEdge that is focused on helping people trade Forex.
It’s a relatively new blog, but it has already published a lot of blog posts.

How did this blogger get so many ideas for his Forex trading blog?
Most, if not, all his blogging ideas come from keyword research.
So, what’s keyword research?
According to Moz, keyword research is about identifying popular words and phrases your target audience enter into search engines.
Researching keywords gives you a better understanding of what exactly your target audience is searching on Google and also how many people are actually searching for it online every month (i.e. average monthly search volume).
For example, here’s a list of keywords that is related to Forex trading blog niche.

As you can see from the screenshot taken from my own “KWFinder” account, there are more than 100,000 people are searching for forex trading every month in the US alone.
The other keywords “forex trading beginner” and “forex trading strategies” also have good search volume.
With this tool, you will know for sure that your audience will be interested in what you are going to write, even before you start writing.
Also, you will have a much higher chance of ranking high on Google and get more organic search traffic to your blog.
By the way, you can read my review on this keyword research tool that I am using right now to help me find good blog post ideas for my own blog.
Relationship Niche:
- Dating (e.g. dating advice for men, dating advice for women, online dating, Christian dating, etc)
- Marriage
- Breakup
- Divorce
- Repair relationship (e.g. save a marriage, etc)
- Friendship
Let’s take a look at an example.
This dating blog, The Urban Dater, was started by a guy named Alex.
On this blog, there are over hundreds of blog posts on a wide range of dating topics such as how to get a date, where to find a date, dating mistakes, online dating, what to say during a date, what to wear to impress your date, office romance and long-distance dating.

So, how does he get so many ideas for his dating blog?
The key is to understand your audience and find out what dating problems they are experiencing.
When you dive deep in your audience’s mind, you will uncover a lot of good ideas not just for your blog posts but also for your products or services that you want to create and sell.
So, how do you find out more about your audience’s pain points?
Here are a few ways that you can try:
- Do a survey with your existing readers
- Go to dating forums or groups to see what they are talking about
- Directly ask them through interviews
Hobbies Niche:
- Cooking
- Baking
- Singing
- Play Musical Instrument (e.g. Guitar, Piano, Drums, etc)
- Gardening
- Video Gaming
- Sports (e.g Basketball, Football, Golf, Tennis, Sailing, Diving, Biking, etc)
- Yoga
- Photography
- Jewelry Making
- Knitting
- Magic
- Fishing
Of course, the list goes on.
Below is a screenshot from a website called “Piano In 21 Days”.

When you first saw this website “Piano In 21 Days”, you might think that a pianist or a piano teacher started it.
Actually, it’s NOT.
The website owner, Jaques, has a hobby – playing the piano.
He started to learn how to play piano at a young age as a hobby and later went on to pursue an engineering career which is totally unrelated to the piano.
Out of his passion for piano, he started his website ON THE SIDE, to share his knowledge about piano playing and help beginners learn how to play in a short period of time.
What is his result?
So far, he has had more than 3,500 paying students for his online course teaching people how to play piano in 21 days.
And this has become his full-time business.

Blogging Niche For Moms
If you are a mom who is not interested to start a blog in the four evergreen niches that I talked about earlier, here are some suggestions for you.
As a mom, you already have experience with pregnancy, childcare, healthy eating for children and parenting, so it’s very easy for you to start a blog around these topics because you can share your advice and tips with new moms and help them.
In fact, there are many mom bloggers who are already doing this.
But, I don’t really recommend you just start another mom blog exactly like theirs.
To build a successful mom blog, you have to be DIFFERENT from other mom bloggers out there.
How else are you going to grow an audience if you are saying exactly the same thing as all the other mom bloggers?
The answer is you must differentiate yourself from others.
One way is to niche down.
Instead of writing about everything about motherhood, you can focus on one or two areas of motherhood that you can help other moms with.
For example, Natalie, the mom blogger behind At Home With Natalie, specializes in children’s party planning.
On her blog, she writes a lot about party planning, food and recipes.
Now you see, a mom blog doesn’t necessarily have to be only just pregnancy, breastfeeding, infant care and parenting.
Let’s look at some other examples.
There are two hilarious mom bloggers, Cat & Nat, who talk about motherhood with honesty and humor.

These two mom bloggers really stand out because very few moms actually talk about the hard truth about motherhood the way they do.
And they have become so popular and successful that they even published their own book and went on live tour across different countries.
There is another mom blog called Lucie’s List which is specially about helping new parents choose their baby gears.

Personally, I think this is a brilliant idea because it really solves a burning problem faced by all the parents.
I remember when I was still pregnant, I would spend hours and hours research on which breast pump is the best and which stroller I should get for my baby.
It would be a huge life saver as well as time saver if someone who has been there and done there could just give me a recommendation on what is best for me.
Recommended Tools
Once you have found your blogging niche, you will need to get a domain name and set your blog up.
Here’s what I recommend:
- Bluehost at $3.95/Month (I used this to start this blog)
Bluehost is the BEST web hosting for beginner bloggers for a few reasons:
- FREE domain name
- FREE SSL for your blog
- 99% server uptime (i.e. your blog is up 99% of the time)
- Fast website load time
Register Your FREE Domain Name with BlueHost Now
An email autoresponder software is a good-to-have because you can use it to build a list of email subscribers.
The reason why you want to build an email list is that you can keep in touch with your audience and send them back to your website whenever you have new articles or videos published.
Having an email autoresponder software also allows you to create a powerful email sequence to help you sell products or services (either your own or other people’s)
If you are having a tight budget, there is an email marketing software called MailChimp which allows you to use it for free as long as your list of subscribers does not exceed 2,000.
However, my experience with MailChimp is not very pleasant.
After getting fed up with the FREE service, I finally decided to sign up for GetResponse which I am still using right now till this day.
You can sign up for GetResponse for a FREE 30-day trial NOW.
Once you have bought your web hosting, the next thing you need for your new website is a fast and responsive WordPress theme.
A WordPress theme is like the interior design of the new empty house you just bought.
When it comes to choosing the right theme, there are TWO things that are super important:
- Speed
- Responsive design
- Conversion-focused
Ideally, you want a WordPress theme that is light and fast, so your website will load quickly for your website visitors.
A fast website gives them a better user experience as well.
Next, you need your theme to be responsive.
That means your website can be viewed on all types of devices – mobile phones, tablets and laptops.
But, you shouldn’t just want a fast and responsive website.
At the end of the day, you also want a website that can help bring you more subscribers, more customers, and more revenue
For that reason, I highly recommend Thrive Themes which is conversion-focused.
Lastly, I recommend this keyword research tool called “KWFinder” ( which I am also using to find good blog post ideas for this blog)
With this keyword research tool, you will know for sure that your audience will be interested in reading what you are going to write, even before you start writing.
